Assignments

See eLc for the due date. The due time is 11:59pm on the due date. Submit all assignments on eLc (not e-mail). I will deduct points for submitting assignments late (10% for each day, up to 2 days). Assignments submitted after 2 days of the due date and time will not be accepted (except for special accomodations).

First Group Project

For your first group project, you will have to model a database for a given business situation. You will need to develop a data model, convert the data model to a relational database, and write queries to access the database. More guidelines will be provided.

Second Group Project

The second group project is similar to the first, except that it will be based on a real-life business situation and will have an increased level of complexity. Again, additional guidelines will be provided.

Exercises

Exercises will be given on a regular basis to practice SQL, data modeling, and analytics skills. Students have the option to work with a peer. For each exercise, a subset of the questions will be graded.

Quizzes

Quizzes will be given on a regular basis. Make-up quizzes will not be given for any reason, but each student’s lowest quiz will be dropped at the end of the semester.

Professional Development Requirements

The purpose of the professional development requirements is to provide students with the short and long-term skills needed to flourish professionally. The requirements vary with the course and where students are in their program of study, but the requirements are designed to provide needed preparation for both entering the workforce and having a successful career. In our class, professional development credit requires the completion of the Arch Ready Professionalism Certificate (which involves attending five events offered by the UGA Career Center. See schedule.

Note: If you have potential conflicts with meeting the professional development requirements or if you think that there are better development activities for your situation, meet with your instructor to discuss the possibilities. Requests for alternative ways of meeting the professional development requirements must be entered into MISTERS by September 29.

Exams

This course requires the completion of two examinations (each with two parts). Only in the case of documented illness or a documented emergency causing a student to miss an exam, a special makeup exam might be given, or other arrangements might be made. However, in fairness to all students, documentation of illness (from health care facility) or emergency is needed – no exceptions.

There is an optional cumulative final exam for the course. If you intend to take the optional final exam, you must inform the instructor of this via email no later than 5:00 pm, November 22, 2022. If you take the cumulative final exam, then exams 1 and 2 (together) will count for 30% and the final exam will count for 10% of your final grade.
